Confessions of a Female Batman Collector.....

Now you know that it gets pretty tiresome seeing people's expressions when I tell them I collect Batman memorabilia. "Probably some traumatic event she experienced as a child..." you can hear them thinking.... In actuality my childhood was if anything, very uneventful. Yes, I did play with dolls growing up and no, my parents were neither shot to death in an alley nor do I make a habit of spending all hours of the night catching bad-guys (my college days alas are long gone).

Besides, who ever said that males had sole rights to Batman collecting anyway? My collection is not that large, but what I have tried to do over the years is focus on acquiring quality pieces. Following that plan, I've picked up some nice pieces along the way; mainly in the Mego line of memorabilia.

I do remember my younger brother having all sorts of Batman toys as a child so maybe there is a connection there.

You guys think you have it hard, try convincing your husband that a MIB Mego Catwoman is worth the $200 you just plucked down for it at a show. Or that he's going to have to watch the kids because Mommy has to go to a Toy Show. "Why don't you just take the kids with you?" he asks. There is one thing that you learn quickly as a parent is that 2 and 5 year old boys do not do well at toy shows; something about haggling on a Batman piece while maintaining visual contact with two children who think it's Christmas does not lend itself to my maternal side. I love my kids dearly but no thank you. You guys go ahead and bond with Daddy for a while.

Maybe he can teach you all to grunt or something...
